I was also told not to go less than 10nm on narrowband filters. I bought a 10nm Ha filter specifically for use with my Hyperstar 10. It seems to work very well. I have never tried my 6nm Ha filter with the Hyperstar so I cannot tell you what would happen when using a narrower bandpass than 10nm. I really enjoy narrowband imaging. It allows me to image on moonlit nights without fogging. Also, with the hyperstar, the usual 8 - 10 minute exposures are not necessary. I find that 4 minute exposures work fairly well.
